Support Our Work

general information

Community Housing Solutions is a small, local nonprofit organization that is making homes warmer, drier, and safer for our neighbors. Our skilled staff repairs homes for those who are not physically or financially able to do so themselves. We rely on the support of our community - through time and financial contributions – to continue to make meaningful and lasting impact in Guilford County.

Donate

The work of CHS is possible because of the generous support of our community and people like you. We are careful stewards of your donation and of our resources. Ninety cents of every dollar given to CHS goes directly into our programs. CHS creates hands-on volunteer opportunities for businesses, faith organizations, local colleges, civic organizations and community members. We leverage over 9,000 hours of volunteer labor annually, stretching our impact and your donation. We also use local and minority subcontractors on repairs that require a licensed professional, keeping these funds in the community. CHS is mindful of our physical resources, accepting gift-in-kind donated materials that we store in our 3,500 square foot warehouse. Everything from shingles, flooring, paint, and plumbing fixtures to tools are reused and repurposed from job-to-job, eliminating waste and decreasing overhead.

Volunteer

CHS welcomes volunteer groups. Repairing homes - hands-on work - not only benefits homeowners, but provides excellent team-building opportunities. Faith community, corporate and civic groups join us for larger jobs, including demolition, major repairs, building accessibility ramps, roofing, and more. Group volunteer opportunities are available weekdays and Saturdays and for our neighborhood and community events. Group participants must be 14 and older. CHS provides gloves, safety gear and tools, but bringing additional tools is always appreciated. For more information on volunteering, reach out to contactus@chshousing.org

All volunteers must complete a waiver before volunteering.

Ambassadors Luncheon

Every year, CHS holds an Ambassadors Event to celebrate our work and the community that comes together to make it happen. Our Ambassadors Luncheon is a unique moment where homeowners, volunteers, CHS staff and board members, and community supporters gather in one space to celebrate work well done and look forward to what is to come.

This year's event will take place on Thursday, October 9 at the Swarm Field House. Click HERE for sponsorship information. Questions, please reach out to contactus@chshousing.org.

SPONSOR A REPAIR

Community Housing Solutions has a waiting list of low-income families in need of a home repair to make their homes warmer, drier, and safer. These needed repairs could not be accomplished without the financial and volunteer support of the Guilford County community each year through full or partial sponsorship of our work.

Community Housing Solutions works with employers, faith organizations, civic groups, trade associations, foundations, and colleges and universities to complete Adopt-a-Repair projects. This sponsorship helps to restore hope and dignity to individuals and families living in substandard housing conditions. If you or your group is interested in Adopt-a-Repair, please reach out to contactus@chshousing.org.

How Honor Cards Work

For a minimum donation of $5, you can purchase an Honor Card to send to a family member, friend, or loved one. Inside will be a note that reads, “A gift has been given in your honor to Community Housing Solutions. “Honor cards are more than the perfect gift for that hard-to-shop-for person in your life. It’s a real and tangible way to support our mission and give back to your neighbors. Throughout this campaign, 100% of the proceeds raised through the Honor Card campaign will go directly to CHS.

About William Mangum
With an illustrious career that spans more than four decades, Mr. Mangum has earned his reputation as one of the foremost landscape artists of his time. Over the years, he’s added author and publisher to his resume, showcasing his talent with eight books, two films, and a one-person exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of History, along with Fortune 500 brand partnerships and keynote speaking engagements. While all of these accolades are impressive, Mr. Mangum is most interested in using his artistic abilities to help others. Since its inception 35 years ago, his Honor Card campaign has helped raise more than $10 million for local non-profits and agencies across North Carolina. In 2023, he selected CHS as the benefactor of his Honor Card campaign, helping CHS as we work to make Guilford County homes warmer, drier, and safer. Read more about the history of The Honor Card

Legacy Giving

Legacy giving allows individuals to leave a lasting impact and continue supporting a favorite charity beyond their lifetime. A gift to Community Housing Solutions through a bequest – a gift made through your will or trust – allows ongoing support for our mission to make homes in Guilford County warmer, drier, and safer. For many, leaving a gift in their will is the most practical and effective way to make a meaningful gift. For more information on making a legacy gift to CHS, please reach out to contactus@chshousing.org.
